One of the emissaries sent by the Assyrian king Sen-nacherib (705–681 BCE) to Hezekiah, the king of Judah (727–698 BCE), with a demand for a ransom, which Hezekiah paid out of the Temple treasuries. When a further demand for surrender was relayed by Rabshakeh, the prophet Isaiah promised Hezekiah that God would prevent Jerusalem from falling into Sennacherib’s hands (2Kgs 18:13-19:37; Isa 36-37).
